DFA Link meeting with Melinda Jackson and Otto Lee

Once all the hard work is done (for this cycle, at least!) and the votes are counted, let’s get together and go over the results. It will be our last meeting at the DVC.

On hand, we’ll have two experts speaking:

Melinda Jackson, Chair of the SJSU Dept of Political Science. Dr. Jackson’s interests center on public opinion and political participation in American politics with a special focus on political psychology and political identity.

Otto Lee, California member of the DNC. Otto will rehash the big races across the country, and provide the viewpoint of the national party.

The Dean Club has been working on Congressional campaigns for 8 election cycles (since 2004), canvassing, phoning, and raising money. Let’s continue our record of activism on October 8 at:

Come make phone calls, write postcards, or text voters in key swing districts (e.g., TJ Cox, Katie Porter, Josh Harder, perhaps others as well). Training or refreshers will be available, and everything will be provided except your cell phone if you want to text.

The DFA Link meeting on July 9, 2018, will feature a presentation by Steve Chessin of Californians for Electoral Reform.

Proportional Representation: What is it, why do we need it, what does the rest of the world know that we don’t?

Steve Chessin, President of Californians for Electoral Reform, will discuss methods for choosing representatives that are different from the ones commonly in use in the United States today, methods used by most of the established democracies and most of the emerging democracies around the world today, and that have been used, at one time or another, in the United States as well.
